Business Analyst Intern – Data Lineage Focus

Overview:
We are looking for a curious, detail-oriented Business Analyst Intern to support our data lineage and data documentation efforts. As a key part of our data team, you’ll help track how data moves across our systems, improve transparency, and ensure data is being used accurately and efficiently. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in business analysis, data governance, and data management, and offers hands-on exposure to how organizations manage complex data ecosystems.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in mapping data flows across business systems, identifying how data is sourced, transformed, and used.
  • Help document data lineage, metadata, and dependencies using internal tools and documentation platforms.
  • Support the creation of process diagrams, data dictionaries, and system interface documentation.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to gather information about data movement and usage.
  • Contribute to data quality and governance initiatives by identifying gaps or inconsistencies in data documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings, status updates, and ad hoc research tasks related to data analysis and operations.

Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and interest in understanding how data works behind the scenes.
  • Basic understanding of data concepts like databases, ETL, and metadata (bonus if you've used SQL).
  • Comfortable working with process mapping tools (e.g. Visio) or eager to learn.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Eagerness to learn, ask questions, and contribute to a team environment.

Nice to Have (but Not Required)
  • Exposure to BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) or data cataloging platforms (e.g., Alation, Collibra).
  • Prior internship, class project, or coursework related to business analysis or data governance.
  • Curiosity about data privacy regulations and how companies ensure compliance.
